The club is a private members-only club perched on top of Red Mountain with the best views in Birmingham. The club was first a vision by Robert S. Smith but it became a reality when it opened its doors in 1951. Smith was a Birmingham native and executive secretary at Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railroad Company (TCI), a division of U.S. Steel. At TCI, Smith provided entertainment, food, and lodging for visiting U.S. Steel executives. In his role, he desired to show out-of-town guests the best of Birmingham which led to the vision for a private dining club, which became known as The Club.
Opening in 1951, The Club was unlike anything in the country with a unique “007” charm and unmatched panoramic views of the city. It was a total conversation piece offering dining, entertainment, private functions, or just to simply connect with others.
Since 1951, The Club has added two reception areas, a ballroom, several state-rooms, two more dining rooms, and the property underwent a state of the art renovation in 2018 adding a modern flair to the property while still maintaining the rich history and flare the members had grown to love.
Today, the original Club serves as the main entrance with its porte-cochère and the now-famous neon sign that welcomes you and your guests.
Weddings and events are always a true statement at The Club with so many venue options, unmatched views, and delicious food. It is one of the premier wedding destinations in Birmingham. As a private club, to host an event or wedding you must be a member or have a member act as a “sponsor” for your event. The Club’s in-house coordinators specialize in everything from menu detail to reception planning, and they will be by your side providing elite service from venue tour to send off.
