Zola vs. The Knot for a Wedding Registry

Congratulations! You are engaged and planning your dream wedding, and it can be overwhelming. Before long people will be asking where you are registered. The two main wedding registry websites are Zola and The Knot. Our goal is to break down each one for you to help you choose the best registry option for you: Zola vs The knot for a wedding registry!

We will also share some of the amazing features these companies offer, so you can be prepared to plan the wedding of your dreams!  So which platform is better for you, Zola, or The Knot? Let’s take a look…

Zola vs. The Knot for a Wedding Registry

The Knot

First, we will take a look at The Knot. The Knot is the original and well-known powerhouse when it comes to a one-stop-shop for wedding planning. The knot also has merged with wedding wire and is known as The Knot Worldwide. We like to describe it as the place to plan a wedding, find vendors, build a registry, and a wedding website. They also have an extensive blog and planning tools to make the process easier.

Features of the Knot

  • Couples can create a free Wedding Website from their templates.
  • Wedding Registry Gifts – Grab gifts from any online store and easily include them on your registry. The registries feature Brands such as Bed Bath and Beyond, Williams Sonoma, Wayfair, Amazon, etc
  • The Knot offers a Cash Registry option as well
  • Find wedding vendors
  • Read wedding resources, planning tips, and more

The Knot sounds like a great option, but it has some controversial aspects about it within the wedding industry. Without going into too much detail (we don’t want to bore you, after all, you are looking to plan your wedding not to hear about wedding gossip). To be a vendor on the Knot you have to pay to play, so not all of the wedding vendors on the platform are vetted. Also, some of their wedding planning resources can be misleading to couples.

With that said, they still offer a great service, have a nice wedding registry, and allow couples to create a wedding website for their guests. So, how does Zola compare?

Zola

Zola is the “new kid on the block” when it comes to wedding registries and has a lot going for it. They advertise as being a more personal source for wedding registries. By offering invitations and save the dates as well as 20% post-wedding discounts on all your items, it can be very appealing. Some of the companies on The Knot, like Bed Bath and Beyond, offer 20% off post-wedding purchases, but it is not website wide on all items like Zola offers. Zola partners more with individual brands versus the big box stores, so you have access to thousands of brands and items that you can purchase at a discount if they are not gifted to you. But, that’s not all. Learn more about all the features Zola offers to couples planning their wedding!

Features of Zola

  • Free Wedding Website – Couples can select from over 250 free wedding websites that are super easy to create and customize. • Wedding Registry Gifts and Gift Cards – They have the fastest growing registry business in the country. Couples can register for wedding gifts and honeymoon funds all in one place. Zola sells over 100,000 gifts in the online store, and offer amazing benefits like free shipping and returns, and smart exchanges. Their registry also features brands such as Crate and Barrel, Backcountry, and more
  • Honeymoon Funds with a 2.5% fee.
  • Save the Date and Invitation Ordering – The save the dates, invitations, thank you cards, and day-of cards are super affordable. There is a matching paper suite for every one of the free wedding websites. Plus, other free benefits like a guest list manager, guest addressing, and shipping.
  • An Online Wedding Boutique – Zola also now sells everything couples may need for their big day from party favors to decor, and even bridal gowns, wedding party attire, jewelry, and intimates.
  • Wedding Vendor Directory –  Zola also has recently launched a wedding vendor directory that is highly vetted and is not “pay to play,” so they can ensure quality vendors are available to their couples.
  • Did we mention the 20% Post Wedding Discount on registry items that you didn’t get?!?
